Associate Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney to join our team and support our expanding public sector practice. This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with government clients on matters involving criminal prosecution, municipal law, and appellate advocacy. The ideal candidate will be a strong legal writer and researcher, possess a zeal for trial work, and demonstrate a deep commitment to public service and legal excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent government clients in criminal prosecutions, including all misdemeanor through felony level offenses
- Assist in handling appeals, including drafting appellate briefs and preparing for oral arguments
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, pleadings, and ordinances
- Attend hearings, trials, administrative proceedings, and council or board meetings as needed
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Minnesota (or pending admission)
- Minimum two to five years of relevant legal experience
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Interest or background in public service, government law, or appellate practice
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- High ethical standards and professional integrity
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Prior experience in criminal trial litigation
- Familiarity with state and local government processes
- Experience drafting or arguing appeals
